My favorite lteracy tool surrounding web based technology is collaboration.  I am doing a research project for my masters program on nurse and physician collaboration. The knowledge that I have gained surrounding the benefits of  tweeting, blogging and creating a wiki page, leave me spinning.  I hope to  incorporate at least one of the web tools into my research project.  Thank you Randy for not allowing this class to be dropped.. Initially there was some talk that the without enough participants the class would not have been held.  It has forever changed our lives!  We will always be curious now that the door to technology has been opened for us (especially the nurses in the class).  I would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Colleen and Dave for sharing their K-12 wisdom with us.  I can't wait to begin sharing this information with my nursing colleagues!

  • Blog post on your favorite technology tool -
  • What about the tool do you like?
  • Is it at the center of your PLN?
  • What can you do to spread the goodness of the technology tool you chose?
  • Tweet out the post when complete. Add a hashtag if you think it's appropriate (i.e. #edchat, #techchat, etc.) OR Blog about one of the five net literacies, what you have done to develop it and how you might share what you've learned about the net literacy (or literacies) with a colleague, friend or family member.

    Furlough

I am amazed as I read Dave and Collen's blogs as  i realize that i have been asleep for many years.  At least in terms of applying and delivering nursing knowledge.  Nurses's have not been as fortunate as educators when it comes to various styles of learning.  I personally have not experienced one class in which the teacher used a white board.  My 17 yr old son on the other hand knows how to use You tube, skype, garage band, facebook, blogging and gaming to anaylze and solve a problem.  I hate to say it but Generation "mom" is held back by fear!  Even now as i sit here on Memorial Day I am struggling with how to use all these wonderful links on edomodo etc efficiently and effectively.  Dave, I'm not sure how (other than seniority) a school district would furlough such a brilliant, passionate young man! But, I am sure that your next journey will be even better than this one!  You have a gift, never forget that fact!

Well, here it is Thursday night.. and I'm revisiting how to make the most of all this new web based technology.  I have concluded that we need more hands on class time.  Dave and Randy can you show us some of the neat tricks of making the most of blogging and twitter, inserting pics and graphics etc?  Its exciting for us middle agers :)

With so much knowledge gained in so little time my brain feels heavy.  I am reading through my RSS posts and find that I have gained 1000 entries by subscribing to group feeds.  I am intrigued by the use of the web to capture so much information and can truly appreciate Rheingolds recommendations to "filter", while staying focused on the prize.  I am in awe of the computer skills that my 3 children of varied generations possess.  They never watch TV, they watch their laptops.  They are fluent in google and computer searches.  I know that it is imperative to begin restructuring the way we deliver knowledge to our children and their children of the future.  It is a daunting task to say the least.  I really want to be a pioneer of nurse educators.  For those of us currently on the masters in nursing journey, we can all speak to the fact that we are currently taught through a lecture based curriculum. I can't begin to imagine what we are missing by not utilizing a personal learning network! What are others doing across the globe to innovate the delivery of graduate level nursing course content?  I am sooooooo curious!
